 This week is going to be EXCITING!!

Red Ribbon Week:

Monday: HAT DAY!  "Tip your hat to being drug free!" 

Tuesday: WILD SOCKS DAY! "Sock it to drugs!"

Wednesday: PAJAMA DAY! "Don't ruin your dreams stay off drugs!"

Thursday: HALLOWEEN COSTUMES! "Being drug free is spooktacular!"

• Our annual Halloween/Costume Parade will be October 31, beginning at 9:00 am. Please bring a blanket or chair to set up outside the building to watch the parade. 
• Costume guidelines:

-Traditional themed costumes (Witch, vampire, ghost) are encouraged, but not required

-Masks allowed

-No blood or gore depicted on either the face/body or costume

-No weapons of any kind allowed

We will also be having a Halloween Party in our classroom.  If you have not yet filled out this permission form it needs to be filled out in order for your child to participate with the treat rotation!!

HERE IS WHAT IS COMING UP ....

We are excited for our annual elementary Halloween Parade that will take place on Thursday, October 31^st, which is also a short day. Because the parade will start at 9:00am, we ask that students come to school already dressed in their costumes. For those who would like to watch the parade, please plan on bringing camping chairs or blankets to sit along the outside of either Q1 or Q2 (click here to see the map—the yellow squares indicate where families can sit). Though Q2 students are welcome to dress up, their participation in the parade will be limited to watching the elementary students. 

Costume guidelines:

Costumes should be modest and without blood or gore. Students are welcome to paint their faces and wear Halloween masks, but masks will only be worn when directed to do so by the classroom teacher (e.g. during the parade, when a class picture is taken, etc). No one should enter the school wearing a mask. Weapons and anything that depicts violence are not allowed on school property (knives, guns, swords, spears, scythes, etc.). If you have questions about costume accessories, please contact us. Just to reiterate, no blood or gore is allowed, either depicted on the costume or in makeup. Thanks!

This brings us to the end of UNIT 1!  Smart Start and Unit 1 will be graded for 1st term!  This would be a great time to REVIEW these words with your child!!

r-blends /kr/, /dr/, /fr/, /gr/, /tr/, and s-blends /sm/, /sn/, /sp/, /st/, /sw/.

(Do these HOME ACTIVITIES to help reinforce what we are learning in class!!  Right now we are learning different strategies for addition and subtraction.  Like so many things we learn in 1st grade we want to build a solid foundation!!)
