Bringing a stuffed animal on Friday was a great reward after working really hard on adjusting to being a 1st grader with all the new responsibilities and expectations that come with First Grade! It was also fun to READ TO A FRIEND! A great idea to do at home as well!!

You will know begin to see the Home/School Folders will be the same week after week. The papers you need to help your child with will be in the front. Use these papers with the 20 minutes of reading that are required each night. Make sure they can read all the reading passages that are highlighted with the sound we learned the week before. Read them everyday for the next week, this will help with reading fluency! New High Frequency Words come home each week. These aren't "memorize" words. We don't "sound" these words out. Have your child READ THE WORD & SPELL THE WORD. Keep the cards from week to week and review them! The "Fast and Fluent" page gives spelling words using the sound we are focusing on for the week ... these words can be sounded out and then write each letter matching the sound they hear to complete the word! The time you spend with your child at home will greatly benefit them as we BECOME FLUENT READERS this year!! Please CLEAN OUT the papers in the folder before returning it the following week!!
You are welcome to have your child work in their math books at home! You can either work on the same lessons we are working for the week ... or go back to the week before to see if your child was able to pick up on the skill we spent the past week working on!! For some these first lessons are easy - but for others they will need some additional support to get this foundation! It will always be helpful for a child to get some one-on-one help!!
